Common Questions About Contacting a Lawyer

How long does a free legal consultation take?

An initial consultation at Yazdi Law typically lasts 30 to 45 minutes. During this time, an attorney reviews the facts of your situation, explains the relevant area of law and court procedure, discusses the realistic range of outcomes, and answers your questions. For straightforward matters — such as an uncontested divorce or a residential real estate closing — the consultation may be shorter. For more complex situations involving multiple legal issues, the attorney will take whatever time is needed to understand the full picture. There is no charge for the initial consultation and no obligation to retain the firm afterward.

Can I have my consultation by phone or video instead of in person?

Yes. Yazdi Law offers consultations by phone, video conference, or in person at the firm's Midtown Manhattan office. For clients in the five boroughs, Nassau, Suffolk, or Westchester counties, in-person meetings are available at 261 Madison Avenue, two blocks from Grand Central Terminal. For immigration clients located outside New York — the firm handles immigration matters nationally — phone and video consultations are standard. When scheduling, let us know your preference and we will accommodate it.

What happens after I submit the contact form?

After you submit the form, an attorney reviews your inquiry within one business day. The attorney will contact you by your preferred method — phone or email — to ask any follow-up questions and schedule a free consultation. During the consultation, the attorney will assess your matter, explain your legal options, and discuss fees if you decide to proceed with representation. Submitting the contact form does not create an attorney-client relationship or any obligation. For matters with approaching deadlines — such as a statute of limitations on a personal injury claim under CPLR Section 214 or an immigration filing deadline — call (917) 565-7286 directly for expedited attention.

Is the information I share in the contact form confidential?

Information submitted through the contact form before a formal attorney-client relationship is established is not protected by the attorney-client privilege under New York law. An attorney-client relationship is formed only after execution of a written retainer agreement. For this reason, we advise limiting what you share in the form to the general nature of your legal matter and your contact information. Detailed facts and sensitive information should be discussed during the consultation itself, after the scope of any potential representation has been established.
